SANTANDER PARK
The central square of Leticia is a meeting place for the inhabitants, but also for the parrots
Leticia's central square is a meeting place for the locals, but also for the much more numerous parrots! At around 5.30pm, thousands upon thousands of parrots arrive from all directions. They invade the trees on the esplanade with a deafening noise. You can hardly see the leaves anymore, there are so many birds! This is often a traveller's first encounter with the exuberance of the Amazon rainforest. The parrots stay for twelve hours to rest, then set off again the next morning to the same din.
