PULO DI MOLFETTA
Doline of karstic origin sheltering numerous caves that were inhabited during the Neolithic period
This site can be the subject of an interesting archaeological and geological excursion. Pulo is a sinkhole of karstic origin, formed in ancient times by the collapse of a vast underground system of caves. It is a natural amphitheatre with steep walls, about 35 metres deep and 130 metres wide. It is home to many caves that were inhabited in Neolithic times (beware, their access is forbidden except for cave 1). The material unearthed on the site is on display at the Archaeological Museum of Bari.
