DOLMEN DELLA CHIANCA
A collective burial in Bisceglie, one of the most beautiful prehistoric monuments of the country
The territory of Bisceglie has yielded several dolmens and megalithic monuments dating back to the Bronze Age. Discovered in 1909, the Chianca dolmen, a collective burial place, is one of the most beautiful prehistoric monuments in the country. It consists of a wide corridor (dromos) and a sepulchral chamber 1.80 metres high, whose walls are formed by three vertically arranged megaliths and on which rests the imposing covering stone measuring 2.40 by 3.80 metres. The structure is dated to the 15th century BC.
