CAVE DI SANTA CROCE
Cave with a length of 130 meters where a right femur of Neanderthal man was found in Bisceglie
This 130-metre-long cave, discovered in 1934, has yielded prehistoric material of interest for the study of human presence in the area in the Palaeolithic and Neolithic periods. In particular, a Neanderthal man's right femur from 80,000 years ago was found, as well as flint tools and ceramics, all of which are now kept in the Archaeological Museum of Bisceglie. The cave has also yielded a braided mat of natural fibres dated to 6,500 years ago, making it the oldest example of this type found in Italy.
