SAN SABINO CATTEDRALE
Cathedral of neoclassical style, dedicated to San Sabino, in Canusa di Puglia.
Built around 1080 and consecrated to San Sabino, bishop of Canosa in the 5th century, the cathedral is only Romanesque in its interior structure with three naves and apse. Damaged by several earthquakes, it was covered by five domes and its new façade was rebuilt in neoclassical style at the end of the 19th century. Several features stand out inside the building, such as the series of columns and two fine examples of Romanesque sculpture: the 11th-century pulpit and the episcopal cathedra resting on two sculpted elephants.
