MUSEO ARCHEOLOGICO
Museum exhibiting objects discovered during the archaeological excavations in Altamura
The museum was refurbished and inaugurated in 2017. The collections on the first floor retrace the history of the Alta Murgia, from Prehistory to the end of Antiquity, with an exhibition of objects discovered during archaeological excavations carried out on the surrounding sites: Greek and Apulian ceramics, bronze objects... The second floor is devoted to the Palaeolithic. The main interest of the museum is of course the "Altamura man", a complete skeleton of Neanderthal man discovered in 1993 and 200,000 years old.
