CATTEDRALE SAN CATALDO
Cathedral built in the eleventh century, one of the oldest in Puglia.
This cathedral is one of the oldest in Puglia. It was built in the 11th century and then rebuilt several times. Its beautiful baroque facade shows, on the sides, some traces of the original Romanesque structure. Other curiosities include the Byzantine-style domes and, inside, the Chapel of San Cataldo, dedicated to this Irish saint (patron saint of Taranto) and filled with multicoloured marbles, statues and frescoes attributed to De Matteis (1773). Finally, the original crypt is decorated with frescoes from the 12th century.
