Diocesan Museum in Taranto, preserving about 300 works of art from the 7th to the 20th century
The Diocesan Museum of Sacred Art, inaugurated in 2011, is housed in the building that for more than four centuries was the seat of the archiepiscopal seminary. It preserves about 300 works, from the 7th to the 20th century, related to the religious and ecclesiastical history of Taranto. The treasure of San Cataldo, made up of precious gold and silver objects, Flemish school ivory crucifixes, paintings illustrating the pictorial production of southern Italy, valuable liturgical vestments enriched with topaz and lapis lazuli, etc. are on display.
