VILLA PERIPATO
Villa constituting the most beautiful botanical site of the city in Taranto
Opening onto the Mar Piccolo, the gardens of this Villa, acquired in 1863 by the Beaumont family, are the most beautiful botanical site in the city. This "green lung" of about five hectares testifies to the commendable urban renewal effort undertaken by the municipal government. The name of the villa comes from the Greek word peripatos, "place of walking", and refers to the Peripatine philosophical school, which was based on the principle of teaching while walking. The Taranto philosopher and mathematician Archytas was a representative of this school.
