CHIESA MATRIX
Church that has kept a beautiful portal of Romanesque Apulian style in Grottaglie.
From the original building (11th-12th centuries), the church has kept a very beautiful portal in the Apulian Romanesque style with, on either side, stylophoric oxen (column bearers). It was largely rebuilt in the 14th century by the architect Domenico di Martina. Inside there is a series of chapels in various styles: Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque and Neoclassical. The imposing Chapel of the Rosario (1709) has a dome covered on the outside with polychrome glazed tiles. The Carmine Chapel preserves a nativity scene by Stefano da Putignano.
