TEMPIO SAN GIOVANNI AL SEPOLCRO
Church with an architectural layout reminiscent of the rotunda of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem, with fine fragmentary frescoes.
Hidden at the end of a small square, this adorable and venerable church bears witness to a time when the port of Brindisi was a gateway to the Holy Land. Founded around the year 1100 by the Norman prince Bohemond on his return from the Crusades, it has a circular plan that was to recall the architecture of the rotunda of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem. Its beautiful sculpted portals, its fragmentary frescoes of the 13th-15th centuries and its peaceful atmosphere make it a nugget not to be missed.
