CHIESA MATRIX
Church with a Greek cross plan, covered with a dome covered with tiles.
Situated on the ancient acropolis of Messapian times, this church, the oldest mention of which dates back to 1521, was enlarged and renovated at the end of the 18th century, probably as a result of the damage caused by the 1743 earthquake. It has a Greek cross plan, covered by a dome with polychrome glazed tiles. The interior is lavishly decorated, with frescoes by Domenico Carella. The sculptures, including a Christ rising from the tomb and a Crucifix, both dating from the 16th century, are also of interest.
