DUCAL CASTELLO
Castle with three circular towers of the Angevin period in Ceglie Messapica.
Symbol of Ceglie, the crenellated castle is a beautiful construction of the 15th century built around an imposing Norman tower built after the year 1000. The three circular towers are from the Angevin period (14th century). Several families succeeded each other at the head of the fief, until the arrival, in 1484, of the Sanseverino family who transformed the castle into a seigniorial residence and built the 34 m high crenellated tower, leaning against the lower Norman tower. In the inner courtyard of the castle are displayed the coats of arms of the noble families that dominated the city.
