PALAZZO IMPERIALI
Castle built in 1450 by Giovanni Antonio Orsini-Del Balzo in Francavilla Fontana
The original castle, built in 1450 by Giovanni Antonio Orsini-Del Balzo, was transformed into a residence at the beginning of the 18th century by the Imperiali, lords of the city at the time. Ferdinando Sanfelice, one of the greatest architects of the Neapolitan Baroque, is said to have been involved in the project. The massive aspect of this castle-palace with a rectangular plan is delicately attenuated by the presence of a baroque loggia. Through an ornate portal, one enters the vestibule, up to the Council Chamber, where can be admired paintings from the 16th and 17th centuries.
