Cathedral divided in three by two lésenes, decorated with a portal of Gothic style

The Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta is a gem, especially for the splendour and originality of its 15th century façade, divided into three by two lines, crowned by concave and convex curved cornices, adorned with a Gothic style portal and a huge 24-spoke rose window, meticulously carved on the smooth surface of the stone. The interior, apart from the 1720 ceiling decorated with paintings and gilded stuccoes, was restored between 1896 and 1898. There are some interesting 18th century paintings, including a work by the Neapolitan Vaccaro.

Vous ne pourrez la rater cette cathédrale, Duomo ici, trônant sur la place centrale du centre historique à côté de la mairie. Belle façade bien travaillée, son intérieur est superbe aussi avec ses chapelles et son choeur de toute beauté. Un autel magnifique et des beaux vitraux, ne pas manquer de lever la tête pour admirer le plafond!

Lors de votre visite de la ville, vous monterez très certainement sur les remparts et votre chemin prendra fin sur une place, devant cette belle cathédrale au coeur du centre historique. Le duomo est splendide, je n'ai pas eu l'occasion d'y entrer, mais sa façade reste gravée dans ma mémoire. De même que la vue sur la mer un peu plus loin... en résumé, monter les remparts d'Ostuni vaut vraiment l'effort !

Au coeur du centre historique, sur une minuscule place, la cathédrale possède une très belle rosace sur sa façade d'entrée. Le plafond de la nef centrale comporte de belles peintures, les plafonds des nefs adjacentes sont à caisson. L'ensemble est plutôt sobre et élégant.
