TEATRO ROMANO
Roman theater with a capacity of 5,000 people dated from the first half of the second century AD.
In 1929 the remains of a relatively well-preserved Roman theater were discovered by chance in the historic center of Lecce. With a capacity of 5,000 people, it is dated to the first half of the second century AD and is therefore contemporary with the amphitheater. The theater is visible from the outside, but is not accessible. Next door, the small Museo del Teatro Romano (Via degli Ammirati, 5) exhibits four large theatrical masks from the Villa Adriana in Tivoli and a model of the Roman Lupiae in the imperial period.
