LAGHI ALIMINI
Alimini Grande and Alimini Piccolo, two lakes with many birds and waders in Otranto
Parallel to the coast, these two lakes (Alimini Grande and Alimini Piccolo) of very ancient geological formation were stabilized by development work undertaken after the Second World War. Their name derives from the Greek word Limne, or stagnant. The first (Alimini Grande), which communicates both with the second and with the sea (depending on the tides). The whole forms a protected natural area that is home to many birds and waders. Stretching over more than 400 ha, these two lakes are like two mirrors reflecting a bucolic landscape.
