CASTELLO
Castle hosting exhibitions and various events in Gallipoli.
This castle, the ancient defensive fortress of the town of Gallipoli completely surrounded by the sea, can be spotted with its powerful cylindrical towers. Founded by the House of Anjou, it underwent important alterations during the 16th century, in the Spanish period. According to some historians, this castle, which watches over the entrance to the old town, was the birthplace of the Spanish painter and engraver José de Ribera (1591-1652) known as the Spagnoletto ("the little Spaniard") because of its small size. The castle hosts exhibitions and various events.
