FONTANA GRECA
Greco-Roman fountain of Gallipoli composed of two facades
Considered by some historians to be the oldest in Italy, the Greco-Roman fountain of Gallipoli is located near the bridge adjacent to the castle, which leads to the historic centre. Decorated with bas-reliefs, this Hellenistic fountain represents a magnificent legacy of the time when the city was a colony of Taranto. It is composed of two façades, one facing northwest and the other facing southeast.
For the anecdote: the Italian Post Office has published a series of stamps dedicated to the fountains of the peninsula, of which the Gallipoli fountain is one
