PIAZZA ANTONIO SALANDRA
Square surrounded by baroque buildings located in the heart of the city of Nardo
In the heart of the city, with its arches, balconies, loggias, colonnades and rococo portals, Piazza Salandra forms a homogeneous whole, where the inhabitants of Nardò (the neretini) like to meet, especially in the evening, on the lively café terraces. The square is surrounded by Baroque buildings such as the eighteenth-century church of San Trifone and the Palazzo della Pretura, a palace rebuilt after the devastating earthquake of 1743. In the centre of the square stands the Guglia dell'Immacolata, built in 1769 by the survivors of the same earthquake.
