ROMANESQUE ANFITEATRO
Amphitheater of the Augustan period, one of the oldest monuments of this type in Lucera.
Located to the east of the city (access from the cathedral via the Via Augusto, always straight ahead), this amphitheatre from the time of Augustus (end of the 1st century BC) is one of the oldest monuments of its type. Badly damaged by the Saracens, it has been completely restored, which has made it possible to reintegrate some important elements, such as the large access doors with their dedicatory inscriptions. Don't expect to see the same arenas as in the Colosseum: few stones are still standing.
