Built by Frederick II (1223-1229), the fortress dominates the plain with its powerful walls. Its gigantic outer wall dates from the time of Charles d'Anjou (1269-1283), who had entrusted its execution to Pierre d'Angicourt. It is one of the most imposing and characteristic castles of Puglia. Its dimensions are impressive (900 meters of perimeter), with numerous towers (17) and solid pentagonal bastions that give it a Renaissance look. Unfortunately, the whole complex is poorly maintained...
