BASILICA SANTA MARIA MAGGIORE DI SIPONTO
Basilica of Romanesque style with orientalizing influences located in Manfredonia.
A few kilometres from Manfredonia, this sober 11th century building was abandoned at the same time as the town of Siponto, which explains its relatively dilapidated state. However, the Romanesque style with orientalizing influences has remained pure, as it has been preserved from sometimes heavy restorations. The interior is like the exterior, simple and bare. The building housed the icon of the Madonna of Siponto, which was finally transferred to the Cathedral of Manfredonia for security reasons.
