CATTEDRAL
Cathedral dedicated to San Lorenzo Maiorano, rebuilt by Archbishop Orsini.
Dedicated to San Lorenzo Maiorano, bishop of Siponto who became the patron saint of the city, the cathedral was rebuilt in 1680 by Archbishop Orsini, future Pope Benedict XIII, on the ruins of the previous cathedral in the Angevin Gothic style commissioned by Charles of Anjou. Inside, three precious jewels of medieval art are preserved: the icon of the Madonna of Siponto (12th century), the wooden statue of the Madonna of Siponto, also called "Sipontina" (12th century), and the 13th century wooden crucifix from the church of San Leonardo.
