CASTELLO
Castle intended to ensure the defense of the new city, housing an archaeological museum.
King Manfred's castle was intended for the defence of the new city. The Angevins continued the work and, after them, the Aragonese reinforced the defences of the building, while under French rule the pentagonal bastion was added. After the sack of Manfredonia by the Turks in 1620, the castle became a barracks and then a prison.
Today it houses an archaeological museum that exhibits material discovered in the Siponto lagoon and remains that testify to the presence of man in Daunia since the Neolithic period.
