CATTEDRAL
Cathedral representative of the architecture of Puglia, formed by three naves and three apses.
The Cathedral of Vieste is one of the most representative monuments of Puglia's 11th century architecture. Composed of three naves and three apses, it has been remarkably restored in spite of the looting perpetrated by the Saracens in 1480 and 1554, as well as the earthquakes. Most of the alterations date back to the 18th century, the rest is Baroque in style, like the bell tower. The sculpted capitals, the altarpiece by Michele Manchelli (1581), and the trompe l'oeil frescoes on the right side are worthy of note.
