NECROPOLI LA SALATA
Paleochristian necropolis of La Salata, full of caves and tombs dug into the earth.
On the coastal road between Vieste and Peschici there is the Paleochristian necropolis of La Salata, one of the most interesting and impressive archaeological areas of the Gargano. Filled with caves and tombs dug in the earth or in the rocky walls, it is a necropolis with little known origins but it represents the oldest testimony of the implantation of Christianity in the area. This sepulchral complex of more than 300 tombs, covering an area of about 6,000 m2, dates from the 3rd-4th centuries.
