CATTEDRALE SANT'ANDREA
A beautiful cathedral with beautiful paintings and an icon of the Madonna dell'Idria in Venosa.
Commissioned and financed by Duke Pirro del Balzo (also responsible for the construction of the castle), the cathedral was built between 1470 and 1502. It has a beautiful stone façade and a 16th-century portal. Observe the 42-metre-high bell tower: its walls are covered with marble and inscriptions of Roman origin. Inside there are some beautiful paintings (Martyrdom of San Felice by Carlo Maratta), a fragmentary fresco showing the Adoration of the Magi by Simone da Firenze, and a 13th century icon of the Madonna dell'Idria.
