CHIESA SAN VITO
Church under the cliff of Monte San Biagio, the oldest religious building in Maratea.
Of all the religious buildings in Maratea, the church of San Vito is the oldest. It was founded in the 10th and 11th centuries (the bell tower was added in the 19th century), and it is situated under the impressive cliff of Monte San Biagio (Capo Casale). Inside, with a single nave, there are some interesting frescoes, including a Madonna in Trono con Bambino (Madonna and Child) and a St. John the Baptist dating from the 15th century, as well as other holy figures (San Biagio, San Vito and San Rocco) from the 16th century.
