MONTE SAN BIAGIO
Don't miss the panoramic winding road that leads to the top of Mount San Biagio
A winding panoramic road leads to the top of Mount San Biagio, where the statue of Christ the Redeemer, symbol of Maratea, stands at 650 m above sea level. The mountain, which dominates the entire Gulf of Policastro, is also home to the San Biagio sanctuary. Every year, from the first to the second Sunday in May, celebrations in honour of the patron saint enliven the town. 2 km further on, on a rock, the ruins of Maratea Superior, built in the 8th and 9th centuries, appear, when Saracen raids made the coastal areas dangerous.
