CATTEDRALE DI SAN NICOLA
Church of the IX and X centuries with interesting paintings and sculptures in Lagonegro.
A monument that stands out from the rest. It can be reached by climbing up the old town from Piazza del Purgatorio. The church was built in the 9th and 10th centuries, but it was rebuilt many times. It preserves seventeenth century paintings and some interesting sculptures from the sixteenth century. The church is said to be the burial place of Lisa del Giocondo, Leonardo da Vinci's Mona Lisa, who died in Lagonegro in 1506, according to local legend. At the top of the rocky spur there are some ruins of the medieval castle and a beautiful panorama.
