MUSMA
Museum with an impressive collection of sculptures in Matera.
The Museum of Contemporary Sculpture in Matera brings together nearly 400 sculptures from the end of the 19th century to the present day, by Italian and international artists, including Kengiro Azuma, Maria Lai and Duilio Cambellotti. They are exhibited in the large frescoed rooms of the elegant seventeenth-century Palazzo Pomarici and in underground spaces, which correspond to an ancient network of hypogeums dug into the tufa. The MUSMA is thus the only troglodyte museum in the world! The marriage between ancient and contemporary sculpture, in bronze, marble or steel, is successful.
