Cultural center with an auditorium with perfect acoustics in Matera.
Situated in the tangle of picturesque alleys of the Sasso Barisano, this ancient tufa quarry was abandoned and used as a dump before being reborn as a cultural centre. Inaugurated in 2011, the Casa Cava summarizes the trajectory of the city of Matera and its ancient cave dwellings with an innovative multimedia installation. It hosts conferences, concerts and exhibitions, and houses an auditorium with perfect acoustics. We recommend a visit after a tour of the sassi.
