TAVOLE PALATINE
Remains of a superb temple of Doric style in Metaponto.
The Tavole Palatine is a temple of Hera dating back to the 6th century BC. In this ancient sacred area, located on the site of a Neolithic village, one can contemplate the marvelous Doric style temple that the ancient Greeks dedicated to the intrepid wife of Zeus. Following the restoration of 1961, the remains that can be seen today are composed of 15 columns that were part of the peripteral, the external colonnade (this one had 32 in total). The temple was decorated with architectural terracottas, which are now on display in the Museum of Metapontum.
