CASTELLO NORMANNO-SVEVO
Castle with a porch covered with arches, carved consoles and rooms with ogival vaults
Rebuilt by the Normans after the earthquake of 1184, the castle was modified by Frederick II in the 13th century, when its octagonal tower was built. It was remodelled again in the 15th and 18th centuries. In the 19th century, the Bourbons turned it into a prison. Located on the hill of Pancrazio, at the top of the old town, the complex has retained the characteristic appearance of Swabian castles. Rectangular in plan with towers at the four corners, it has a porch covered with warheads, sculpted consoles and rooms with ogival vaults.
