CASTELLO
Aragonese castle with terrace offering a panoramic view of the Pollino mountain range
This rectangular structure, flanked by large cylindrical towers at each corner, is an ancient fortification from the Aragonese period, as the coat of arms and the inscription above the entrance remind us. It was built around 1461 by Ferdinand I of Aragon and completed around 1490; it was used for a long time as a prison. The interior of the Aragonese castle of Castrovillari is of little interest, with the exception of a small 19th century chapel. From the top of the terrace you can admire the panoramic view of the Pollino mountain range.
