CHIESA SAN MARCO
Sober and charming Byzantine church with some fragments of Byzantine frescos
A sober and charming Byzantine church, dating back to the 10th century, stands on a hill overlooking all the others in the surrounding area. With its square plan, three semicircular apses and five domes, it is reminiscent of the Cathedral of Stilo in southern Calabria. A few additions made over the centuries have linked it to elements of the pre-Romanesque period, thus constituting an architectural ensemble of great historical value. Inside, some fragments of Byzantine frescoes suggest a more extensive wall decoration.
