DUOMO
Cathedral with many quality works to visit
The cathedral was built in the 14th century by order of Robert d'Anjou. The interior, in baroque style, is worth a visit for the many fine works of art it houses. Among these is the Virgin Achiropita, a moving Byzantine image of a Madonna acheiropoiete, that is to say, not painted by a human hand: according to legend, she appeared by a miracle during the construction of the building. Other curiosities: fragments of 12th century mosaics reminiscent of those of the Duomo d'Otranto, the 17th century organ, Neapolitan and Spanish baroque stuccoes.
