CASTELLO DI CARLO V
Castle with 2 towers housing a library and a municipal museum
Built in 840 to defend the city against Saracen incursions, the castle was modified under Charles V in the 16th century. It has a polygonal plan with two towers: the more massive Torre Ausutante and Torre Comandante. Its oldest part is the Marchesano tower, with a circular base. Nowadays the castle of Crotone houses the library and the municipal museum (which exhibits a collection of artillery, costumes and ceramics). In summer it also hosts a tourist information point at weekends.
