LE CASTELLA

The centre is dominated by the majestic presence of the Aragonese castle, which appears immersed in the waters of the marine reserve. This fortress was once the theatre of clashes with the Turkish fleet and the privateers that reigned on the Ionian coasts. Via the castle, via Porto is a shopping street for tourists, especially for typical products. Before or after the visit, the Castella beach will be the occasion for a quiet little swim away from the busy shores of Crotone. The castle is located on a small island connected to the beach by a small strip of land. The current construction is the work of the Aragonese people who, in the late th century, strengthened the defensive system of the book to protect itself from Arab incursions. The fortress seems to obey an irregular plan and was probably built around a building. At night, the illuminated castle offers a spectacular vision.
