CASTELLO CARAFA
Castle in the upper part of the old town of Cirò hosting several illustrious guests
Located in the upper part of the old town of Cirò. Former property of the Count of Carafa (15th century), from an important Neapolitan noble family, it is a square defensive structure with four keeps and a pentagonal bastion. The interior is unfortunately in a pitiful state. The castle has hosted several illustrious guests, among whom Charles III of Bourbon and Luigi Lilio (1510-1576), a mathematician and astronomer, himself a native of Cirò, who was one of the main protagonists of the reform of the Gregorian calendar.
