CHIESA DEL ROSARIO
Historical center behind the chevet of the Duomo concealing some treasures of the church
In the historic center, behind the Duomo's bedside. Consecrated in 1499, its façade was rebuilt in neoclassical style after the earthquake of 1832. The church preserves some treasures, such as the 16th century painting of the Madonna della Vittoria, executed in honour of the victory at the naval battle of Lepanto (7 October 1571). Also worthy of note are the Madonna del Rosario, a painting by the Flemish artist Dirck Hendricksz, the marble statue of the Madonna della Purità by Francesco Cassano (1613), and the decorative stuccoes made in 1770-1772
