CHIESA SAN MICHELE
The only building to retain its Renaissance style structure
It is one of the only buildings that has kept its Renaissance style structure dating from the 16th century. The project of the church is attributed to Giovanni Donadio known as Il Mormando, an architect of Calabrian origin particularly active in Naples. The belfry is later, from 1671, and lost its spire following the earthquake of 1783. Inside there is the coffered dome on an octagonal drum, and the crypt, the only preserved part of the previous church, whose construction dates back to the Norman period, used for a time as an ossuary.
