DUOMO
The duomo is located at the northern end of Corso Umberto I, the main artery of the city.
The duomo stands in a large square at the northern end of Corso Umberto I, the main artery of the city. The Baroque church was built on the remains of a Byzantine building (9th century). Destroyed by the earthquake of 1638, it was completely rebuilt between 1680 and 1723 and then rebuilt in 1852. The interior contains paintings by Emanuele Paparo (1778-1828), a local painter who took up the themes and iconography of Caravaggio. In the transept you can admire statues by Antonello Gagini (16th century) and his school.
