Archaeological museum exhibiting objects from Greek and Roman antiquity
Built by Frederick II of Swabia, the castle was hit hard by the 1783 earthquake. It is now home to the Archaeological Museum, which exhibits objects from the ancient Greek Hipponion and the Roman Valentia. Of particular note from the Magna Grecia period are the votive statuettes and pinakes in terracotta, 16 finely decorated bronze helmets and the laminetta, a gold leaf with an inscription (5th-4th centuries BC), from a tomb.

The castle itself is rather disappointing: remain practically nothing. The housing the archaeological museum is restored and exposed objects are rather interesting. The bird's from the piece of rampart accessible is impressive.
