CASTELLO ARAGONESE
Castle of the Byzantine period hosting art exhibitions and sculptures
The oldest traces of this castle date back to the Byzantine period, around 1027, during the reign of Basilio II. But a first foundation probably dates back to the sixth century when the city was fortified. Its role was to defend Reggio from invaders. This fortress has two towers. The latest restoration work in the year 2000 has recovered the masonry structures and the interiors of the towers, giving back to the city a valuable historical asset. The castle receives art exhibitions and sculptures in its small garden.
