CHIESA SAN FRANCESCO D'ASSISI
Single nave church with 2 baroque altars in polychrome marble in Gerace
Annexed to the convent of the Friars Minor, of which only the ruins of the cloister remain. The church, erected in 1252, has a portal in Arab-Norman style. The bare interior has a single nave with two baroque altars in polychrome marble, the work of Friar Bonaventura Perna da Gerace, who built them in 1664. Behind the main altar is the marble sarcophagus by Nicola Ruffo di Calabria (1372), attributed to a Pisan artist of the school of Tino di Camaino.
