CASTELLO
Castle in the Byzantine period offering a very vast 360° panorama on the countryside
Located on the heights of the city, the castle was once accessible by a drawbridge. All that remains of the powerful original structure is a cylindrical tower, which stands steeply above the precipice, and the remains of walls. The castle, which already existed in Byzantine times, was rebuilt by the Normans in the 11th century and then underwent multiple restorations until its destruction by the earthquake of 1783. Since then, it has been a majestic ruin that dominates a very vast 360-degree panorama over the countryside.
