KELSO DUNES
Kelso Dunes at Mojave National Preserve offering a multi-hour hike in cooler weather
The site is open 7 days a week and 24 hours a day. However, it is best to plan the hike in the morning or evening, when the temperature is cooler. The hike through the dunes can take several hours. In any case, this site is really worth a visit. Also known as Kelso Dune Field, this is the largest wind-driven sand dune field in the Mojave Desert. This area covers 120 km2 and includes different kinds of migratory dunes. The tallest rise up to 200 meters above the surrounding terrain.
