THEATRE SOUNDOUKIAN
Armenia boasts theatrical traditions dating back to ancient times. You will be told that Euripides' coins were represented at the court of the Armenian king in Artachat in the first century BC. This 1,140-seat theatre, housed in a building dating from 1966 and designed by architect Raphaël Alaverdian, attempts to perpetuate the tradition. It is named after the Armenian playwright Soundoukian (1825-1912), author of the Armenian theatre classic Pepo. The theatre is located in the intimate setting of the "English Garden" (Ankliakan Aiki).
